About Jeffrey Rexford
Jeffrey Rexford’s Clients Benefit from His Decades of Design Experience, Award-Winning Projects and Rave Reviews
Principal Designer Jeffrey Rexford has been designing and building homes since he was a teenager.
As a high school student, Jeffrey took on his first design/build project—creating a cabin in the woods for his teacher. Fifty years later, the cabin is still standing, and Jeffrey has been designing and building ever since.
Drawing on decades of experience, Jeffrey currently designs new homes, accessory dwellings, additions, and remodels in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Evolution in Design and Construction
A graduate of Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, Jeffrey spent his college years studying design, construction, and the public good. He spent the last two years of his formal education teaching interior design and carpentry, and his senior thesis focused on community involvement in public works projects. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Engineering.
Having worked as both a design professional and a licensed general contractor, Jeffrey’s experience gives him a unique perspective. He is especially interested in full service design/build projects.
“The design/build concept is the evolution of the construction industry,” he says. “Design/build eliminates the problem of having a design that, when bid, is too costly to build. The budget is established early on in the design process and is carried through to construction.”
Jeffrey’s knowledge in combining design and construction into a seamless service comes from his extensive experience in both areas. In the design realm, he is especially knowledgeable about universal design (including aging-in-place), project management, and permitting. In the field, he is an expert in the areas of safety, environmental protection, leak resolution, and construction supervision. He is a true problem solver and enjoys seeing projects through from start to finish.
A Head and Heart for Design
As a Senior Designer and Design Department Manager, Jeffrey has led teams and created designs that have won numerous design awards, including:
NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry) 2016 Regional Award Universal Design, (Principal Designer)
NARI 2018 Whole Home Remodel (Senior Designer)
NARI and CotY (Contractor of the Year Award) 2021 Entire House Over $1,000,000. (Senior Designer).
Jeffrey is known among his clients and colleagues for bringing his designs to life in exciting ways. His favorite part of the design process is presenting projects in 3D and following through to construction. His clients enjoy seeing the high-tech preview of the finished project in real time, and they appreciate having Jeffrey on board from design through to end of construction.
Books, Photography, and Kung Fu
Jeffrey lives in Sonoma County with his wife, one cat, and several birds, deer and other wild creatures who share the beautiful wine country valley with its residents. When he’s not immersed in design and construction, he studies Kung Fu as a black belt and practices photography. He describes himself as a ferocious reader, always reading at least two books at once. “Murder mysteries and science fiction are currently my favorites,” he says.

He really knows what he's doing and his skill set is top-notch. Being an artist myself, I felt an immediate connection with him. He has the imagination to find solutions that we couldn’t envision. He has the advantage of also having been a builder. Another BIG plus for us is that he's such a nice, easy-going guy. We truly couldn't be more pleased with Rexford Design. — K. Robertson
